Former Director General TSAI Lien-sheng retired from TIPO on December 3 and was succeeded by Deputy Director General WANG Mei-hua, TIPO's first female Director General. DG Tsai will be taking up the position of Secretary General at the Chinese National Federation of Industries on December 17, 2007.

During his term at TIPO, on top of being a responsible and earnest leader, DG Tsai's warm and humorous personality was also well-loved by TIPO staffs. His contribution to Taiwan's IPR developments were many folds, including anti-counterfeiting awareness education, promoting inspection work on counterfeit goods, hosting the Taipei International Invention Show and Technomart, etc., and fostering the signing of IPR cooperation MOUs with France, Australia, the Philippines, etc. The IPR Police was also established during DG Tsai's term, whose inspection efforts are well recognized by local and foreign rights holder groups.

DG Wang's appointment as TIPO's third Director General was approved by the Executive Yuan on December 3, 2007. DG Wang graduated from National Taiwan University College of Law, and served first as Specialist, then Editor, Section Chief, and Director at the Petitions and Appeals Committee, handling patent and trademark related affairs. After the Petitions and Appeals Committee, DG Wang was transferred to the Bureau of Standards as Deputy Director of the Patent Office. After the founding of TIPO, DG Wang was appointed Legal Counselor of the Legal Affairs Office, then Director of First Patent Division, Third Patent Division, Trademark Division, and formerly, Deputy Director General. In addition to being executive officers, DG Wang was also the convenor for JODE (Joint Optical Disk Enforcement Taskforce) and the executive secretary of TIPO's E-project. In 2002, DG Wang received MOEA's exemplary public servant award for her outstanding professional performance.
