The National Police Agency (NPA) under the Ministry of the Interior launched
its first counterfeit crackdown in 2008 between January 14 and 17 to curb
the manufacture, sales and smuggling of pirated goods and counterfeits.
Targeting marketplaces, night markets, factories, warehouses, Internet,
flyers and containers, this special operation was a great success, seizing
goods in 357 IPR infringement cases and arresting 425 suspects that effectively
harnessed the brazenness of counterfeiters and pirates.
To curb the sale of pirated goods, the NPA calls on public support in
the following actions: refuse to buy counterfeits, protect creativity,
do not become a co-conspirator in Internet crime, and vigilant in reporting
crimes.
