According to TIPO statistics of patent applications and patent approvals
in 2007, Foxconn Technology was again the dual champion in terms of the
number of applications and the number of patents granted. In 2007, TIPO
processed 81,820 patent applications, which, although only a slight increase
from 80,988 cases in 2006, set another record high. The number of patents
granted also reached 49,007.
In the aspect of patent application, Foxconn Technology led the pack by
turning in 2,424 applications, accounting for 4.9% of all domestic applications,
followed in the second and the third place by ITRI and Inventec respectively.
Liquid crystal display makers, including AUO, Innolux and Chimei also
turned out impressive performance. As for foreign applicants, Sony took
the first place, followed by Qualcomm and Royal Philips.
In terms of number of patents received, the top three domestic recipients
were in order Foxconn Technology (1,117 patents), ITRI (535 patents),
and AUO (349 patents). TSMC and Inventec ranked respectively 4th and 5th
each receiving more than 300 patents. The top three foreign recipients
were in order Seiko Epson, Sony and Samsung.
