TIPO Expands Web-based Patent Online Application System to Include Invention and Utility Model Patents, Effective January 2
To enhance the convenience of online patent filings, TIPO launched a web-based "Design Patent Online Application System" in December 2024 to complement the existing standalone electronic application software for invention and utility model patents. In a further effort to improve services, starting January 2, 2025, TIPO has expanded this web-based functionality to include invention and utility model patent applications. This update allows applicants to complete the entire process via web browsers with cross-device support. By eliminating the need to install standalone tools, the system is expected to significantly boost administrative efficiency.
The online application services newly available since January 2026 include:
1. New Applications: Invention and utility model patents.
2. Divisional Applications: Invention, utility model, design, and derivative design patents.
3. Conversion of Applications: From invention to utility model or design; from utility model to invention or design; from design to utility model; and between design and derivative design.
4. Preliminary Examination and Reexamination: Substantive examination of invention patents, deferral of substantive examination (invention or design patents), application status inquiries, interviews, and accelerated examination for design patents.
5. Applications Related to the Right to Apply and Patent Rights: Recordation of Patent Application Assignment; Replacement or Reissue of Patent Certificates; and Issuance of Certified Copies of Patent Certificates.
6. Other Services: Technical evaluation reports for utility model patents and reviewing patent cases files and documents.
