In December 2024, TIPO launched an online application system for design patents, which allows users to submit new applications for design patents and derivative design patents, as well as access other application services—all without needing to install desktop software. The system is browser-based and supports cross-device use.

To further streamline the application process, a new Specification Preparation feature was added in 2025. This function allows users to upload Word files containing their design patent or derivative design patent specifications and drawings—either as individual files or a single merged file. The system will then automatically convert the uploaded documents into a PDF file that meets the online format requirements.
