To enhance the efficiency and convenience of design patent searches, the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) has introduced a new Image Based Search for Taiwan Design Patents (Beta Version) function on IPKM in 2025. This feature covers desig n patents published since 2013 and leverages intelligent image matching technology to help users quickly retrieve similar cases through image comparison. By moving beyond the limitations of traditional text based searches, the new tool offers a more intuitive and precise approach, supporting innovation and rights management. The beta version is now open to the public. 

Key Features:

1. Image Upload and Matching: When users upload image s to perform a similarity searches t he system will automatically detect and highlight the relevant design elements with a red frame.

2. Partial Cropping Search: In addition to full image comparison, users may crop specific parts of the image for targeted searching.

3. Integration with LOC Classification: The system supports input of the International Classification for Industrial Designs (LOC), enabling combined image and class based searc hes to narrow down results within specific design fields. 

4. Advanced Filtering Options: Search results can be filtered by designer, applicant, publication year, and LOC classification, helping users quickly focus on relevant cases.

Users can also view the full design drawings or click on "Detailed View" to access bibliographic data and better understand the patent's content.
